Would Mary and Joseph Be Welcome in Bethlehem Today?
“Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie. Above they deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by…”
As Christians pause to sing songs of remembrances of Bethlehem during this season, they recall symbols of mangers and shepherds watching their flocks on the Judean hills. Unfortunately, the Bethlehem of today is a much less peaceful scene.
Bethlehem is now home to the Palestinian Authority (PA) and “Christ At The Checkpoint,” a conference chaired by the PA’s “Higher Committee For Christian Affairs.” Their distorted message: “The Israeli government is giving the green light to the army and to the settlers to continue the acts of attacking and killing the Palestinian people, in particular women and children.” Their perspective is decidedly a skewed Palestinian Liberation Theology teaching that God severed His Covenant with Israel and the Jewish people, replacing them in this case with Palestinians. According to this false doctrine, Jesus was not a Jew, but a Palestinian.
Arriving in Bethlehem today, a Jewish Jesus would be prohibited from entering the city. Jews are barred from entering Palestinian population centers because Palestinians have a habit of murdering them.
Amazing the transformation twenty-one centuries can bring to one once peaceful little town in Israel.
May we at PJTN continue to shine the everlasting light of truth into the darkness of ignorance and deception that seeks to extinguish it.
Praying you will be part of the blessing!
