HOW WILL YOU TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO NEVER FORGET 9/11?
I was in New York for meetings this week. Standing in the shadow today one day after yesterday’s memorial anniversary of 9/11, I’m struck that we’ve awaken to see that the world is a much different place for a new generation of children.
The vision for PJTN was born this week 18 years ago when I gathered my children in front of the television set to witness history unfold. I knew I must teach them the truth. I knew I could not remain silent.
Tragically, as we’ve chronicled at PJTN, thanks to “revisionism by omission and blatant disinformation” in the textbooks used in American schools, (the largest textbook publisher, Pearson, has major shareholders in the governments of the Middle East, and none of those governments is Israel), too few of our children can retell the true story of 9/11, how and why it happened and who and what evil hatred devised the plot that set the stage for this horrific tragedy.
This 9/11-anniversary week we unfortunately learned through yet another international research group based at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, an analysis of 2019-2020 textbooks being used by Palestinian children in this new school year finds a dramatic increase in the amount of incitement and intolerance against Jews and Israel. Their findings in textbooks covering social studies, history and Arabic and national education for grades 2-12 convey a horrific reality in curriculum that calls for violent acts, and one in which hatred and even “martyrdom” are not only justified but glorified and encouraged.
- A social studies book used by 6th graders includes a map of Palestine encompassing the entirety of modern day Israel and the Palestinian territories, claiming that Palestine extends from the Mediterranean Sea on the West to the Jordan River on the East. The same book consistently glorifies terrorism with “martyrdom” and “jihad” being presented as the “most important aspirations in life.”
- An 11th grade history book described the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre by a Palestinian terrorist in which 11 Israeli athletes were murdered as a “strike against Zionist interests abroad.”
- A 7th grade social studies book being used by Palestinian children in this new school year claims that “Zionists” tried to burn down Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque in 1969, when in fact a tourist from Australia with no connection to Israel was responsible for the crime.
- A science book for high school age recounts the Palestinian Uprising of 1987 in which young people employed stones and slingshots as their only defense to confront the bullets of the “occupation” army who were razing Palestinian towns.
When confronted last year, the Palestinian Minister of Education made assurances that changes would be made to modify the hatred. But this week the school gates in the Palestinian controlled areas opened with the same hateful, antisemitic textbooks being used. A whole new generation of young Palestinians are being taught to commit violence, endanger themselves to the extent of martyrdom and to reject any form of peace with Israel.
America has a whole new legion of “enemies” being groomed as our own children are being encouraged to overlook the real source of the Islamic hatred that brought down America’s towers.
While we’ve watched, our enemies have gone from the cockpit of planes, to the classrooms of America, to the Halls of Congress. What’s next to fall?
Your voice must be heard speaking out for your values!
PJTN continues to “educate, motivate and activate” Christians, Jews, and all people of conscience on the daunting challenges we are facing at this time in history—from the rise of antisemitism and the BDS violence on campus, to the failure and infiltration of our American educational system, we are on the frontlines—we are the “Watchmen on the Wall!” There is no time for silence.
Ezekiel 33: 7-9 says: “Thus saith the Lord: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; When you hear Me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, Oh wicked one, you shall surely die,” and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his ways, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked trying to turn him from his way and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself.”
Thank you for your most generous gift this week to enable us to give you a voice too…
