Watch Laurie's statement before the Palm Beach County School Board
I want to personally say “thank you” to our PJTN Watchmen—both in the state of Florida and all over the nation—who stood with me in one voice yesterday at the Palm Beach School Board meeting where PJTN was once again on the frontlines in the war on antisemitism. The onsite participation and phone messages left with the school helped us push the agenda into a victory for those demanding a reversal on the re-hire of the now-infamous “Holocaust-denying Principal” William Latson.
This was a two year battle since our initial press release campaign in the spring of 2018. My speech before the Board yesterday underscored the fact that “Holocaust denial” is more than ignorance—it is against the law. The exposure of our children to “educators” such as Mr. Latson is a risk we cannot, and must not, allow!
Through the good efforts of many concerned individual Americans—both Christian and Jewish—and the alliance of several sister organizations including Stand With Us and Jexit, PJTN was able to add significantly and bring victory to our ongoing involvement in the final outcome of the Board’s 7-0 decision to terminate Latson’s employment. More than 1,300 phone calls were received in support of our position. Thank you, PJTN Watchmen, who participated!
We are not resting on our laurels! I have petitioned Florida’s Attorney General to launch an investigation to determine if the Jewish students affected had their civil rights violated by this ongoing incident. A violation occurs under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act when an educational institution fails to promptly and adequately respond to an incident. Lack of prompt attention, in this case, meant a sense of fear of retribution for the students and parents who reported that a problem existed.
The School Board must still hold another hearing to finalize yesterday's vote. I will be there in Palm Beach again on November 10th to support School Board Chairman Frank Barbieri, Karen Brill and the rest of the Board. Additionally, Florida's Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran has petitioned Chief Daniel Moore with the Bureau of Educator Certification in the state of FL to cancel William Latson's education certification effective immediately. See Commissioner Corcoran's letter to Chief Moore here.
We will ultimately be victorious as antisemitism is a “ground game” —small seeds that when planted in the minds of our children—grow into the next generation of ignorance and hatred.
Not on our watch!
Thank you for your support on this and all we do. I cannot carry the load without you and without the financial support you bring that allows PJTN to give your voice a national platform!
News of what just happened in Florida has gone national and global. It will encourage many more voices to decide to be heard—and to join us in growing an even greater chorus for change.
