Jewish leaders discuss Mideast issues with U.N. Amb. Susan Rice

Posted on 05/20/2013 | Category: Featured Headlines

By The Global Jewish News Source | U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice discussed the Middle East peace process and other regional issues with Jewish community leaders. The hour-long meeting May 13 organized by the Jewish Council for Public Affairs also included representatives of The Jewish Federations of North America, UJA-Federation of New York, and the JCRC of New York. JCPA President/CEO Rabbi Steve Gutow presented Rice with a gift of a mezuzah in recognition of her support of Israel and advocacy of U.S. values and interests at the United Nations. Gutow called the meeting “productive and warm.” “Be it in increasing pressure on Iran to end its nuclear arms ambitions, preventing efforts to isolate Israel diplomatically, or addressing the crisis in Sudan, Amb. Rice has been an important ally,” said Gutow. “We are heartened by her support and leadership on these and other priorities for the U.S., Israel, and the Jewish community. Knesset speaker: Temple Mount solution ‘by Next Year’

Posted on 05/10/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Battalion of Deborah | MK Edelstein says preventing MKs from visiting the Temple Mount is a “very grave” matter. Knesset Speaker MK Yuli Edelstein stated Wednesday that the present state of affairs, in which MKs are prevented from visiting the Temple Mount, is a “very grave” matter, which he hopes will be solved in a year’s time. In a Facebook post devoted to Jerusalem Day, Edelstein wrote: “In the last few weeks, the rights of prayer at the Kotel, the Remainder of our Temple, as well as the right of Jews to ascend to the Temple Mount and pray there, have been placed on the Knesset’s agenda. “The Temple, as is known, was a place of prayer for all nations. “The state of Israel is almost the only one, throughout the history of Jerusalem, which allows free access to all places of worship, which are sacred to all nations, out of respect. The dirty little secret about Israel’s Arabs

Posted on 05/10/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Jewish World Review | What “respectable” organizations — including Jewish ones — and the international media are trying their hardest to cover up    In 2010, Cpl. Eleanor Joseph became the first female Arab combat soldier in the Israel Defense Force. Joseph, a Christian Arab told Israel’s daily Ma’ariv that her good luck charm is a drawing of the Star of David with the caption: “I have no other land, even when my ground is burning.” Her commander drew it for her. Joseph explained, “It is a phrase that strengthens me. Every time I experience hardship, I read it. Because I was born here. The people I love live here: my parents, my friends. This is a Jewish state? Yes, it is. But it’s also my country. I can’t imagine living in any other place. I think every person should serve in the army. You live here? You make your home here? Then go defend your country. What does it matter that I’m an Arab?”  Read more….. Israel celebrates reunification of Jerusalem

Posted on 05/10/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Israel Today | Israelis on Wednesday marked Jerusalem Day, the 46th anniversary of the reunification of the city during the Six Day War. Israel never intended to reunite Jerusalem when it launched a preemptive strike on the gathering armies of Egypt and Syria in 1967. But when Jordan’s King Hussein succumbed to Egyptian pressure and opened a third front against the Jewish state, the opportunity to fulfill the hopes of generations presented itself. Ever since the final Roman conquest nearly 2,000 years earlier, the Jewish people had hoped, prayed and dreamed about returning to and exercising sovereignty over their ancient, biblical capital. Standard of living for Arabs in Israel in a ‘different league’

Posted on 04/29/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Israel Today | Continuing with the theme of debunking accusations that Israel imposes institutional racism and apartheid on the Arabs of the region is a story by the AFP on a senior Bedouin tracker in the Israeli army. Lt.-Col. Magdi Mazarib, the highest ranking Israeli Bedouin army tracker, is featured in the story. He tells the news agency that compared with neighboring countries, the status and position of Arabs in Israel “is better…It’s a different league.” When asked if, as a Muslim, he is bothered serving an overtly Jewish state, Mazarib responds, “The flag of England also has a cross on it, and the Jews there are fine with it.” Read more…. New Poll: 80 Percent Want Sovereignty over Judea and Samaria

Posted on 04/23/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Israpundit | The 80% is very misleading. Here’s what it is comprised of: The survey, conducted by the Geocartography Institute on behalf of the Israeli university in the West Bank, found that 35 percent of respondents said the government should annex the entire West Bank, 24% said only the settlement blocs should be annexed, 20% answered that any annexation should only take place as part of an agreement with the Palestinians, and 12% said Israel doesn’t need to impose its sovereignty over any part of the West Bank. Nine percent had no answer. Ted Belman The Women in Green movement applauds the data that emerge from a poll conducted ahead of the Ariel Conference for Law and Mass Media (to be held on April 29th), according to which some 80 percent of the public support the application of Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria Today (Sunday, April 21), saw the publication of the results of a special poll conducted by the Geocartography research institute on behalf of the Ariel Conference for Law and Mass Media, according to which some 80 percent of the public support the application of Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. HAGEL VISITS ON FIRST STOP OF REGIONAL TOUR

Posted on 04/23/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By International Christian Embassy Jerusalem | US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel landed in Israel on Sunday on the first stop of a six day tour of the region which will also include Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. On his first fay in the Jewish State, Hagel visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem and met with several Israeli officials. On Monday, he emerged from a meeting with Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon to announce the finalization of a large deal supplying some of the latest American defensive armaments to Israel, along with smaller packages to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The trip, and the arms sales, are widely seen as a stark warning to Iran, which threatens Israel with annihilation and tries to intimidate its Western-allied Arab neighbors. Details of the arms deal include the sale by US defense manufacturers to Israel of the V-22 Osprey aircraft, refueling tankers, advanced radars for fighter jets and anti-air defense missiles. Hagel told a joint press conference with Ya’alon that the equipment includes items “that we have not given to any other country (to) ensure Israel’s air superiority in the future and allow the Israeli Air Force long-range capabilities.” Read more….. The Legacy of Margaret Thatcher

Posted on 04/20/2013 | Category: In Support of Israel

By Algemeiner | The death and magnificent funeral of Margaret Thatcher has reminded us of what a divisive figure she was. My only personal encounter with Margaret Thatcher was when as Minister of Education, she was the guest of honor at the Carmel College graduation ceremony (we called it Speech Day) in 1971. I did not warm to her. She was hectoring and lacking in warmth. I admit I was biased. I should confess that I was brought up in a family that considered voting Conservative a betrayal of one’s intellectual and moral integrity. But that was at a time when Britain was still dominated and hobbled by class. The Conservative party was regarded as the preserve of aristocratic, military, wealthy, male Britons (and their obedient ladies) and it tolerated those aspiring to upward mobility. Most Jews were still closer to the ethic of socialism and the Labour Party (despite the ghastly postwar anti-Semitic Ernest Bevin). It was much more pro-Jewish and had many more Jewish members of Parliament in those days.
